DR-1X"FR" MMDVM D-Star?

Anyone ever tried to use the "FR" Yaesu DR-1X repeater for MMDVM?  Zimmerman believes is "may" be possible to get D-Star running on one.  I was asked by a local Ham group to try and get it running...don't want to waste my time if it's been tried and can't be done.  Thanks folks.

So I need help with my decision, I’ve spent a long time review and still lost.  The plan is to connect the DR1X to allstar.   So what is the best quality and direct.   Which of the following would yield the best results?

requirements :::
- repeater will be at a remote location 
- wish list solar power (determine later)
